Nexgen kickstarts Back-to School Backpack Drive with Donation to the Community Policing Unit
Red Creek, Cayo District – July 21, 2025 – Today, Nexgen commenced its annual back-to-school backpack drive with a donation of a total of 150 bags to the Community Policing Unit of the Belize Police Department. The donation is a first of a series by the company to give students a helping hand for the start of the new school year.
The bags were received by Commander of the Community Policing Unit, Assistant Commissioner of Police Howell Gillett. The brief handing over took place at Nexgen’s Headquarters in Red Creek Village, Cayo. In addition to the bags, Chief Executive Officer Adrian Lizarraga remarked, “We will now accelerate efforts to also provide scholarships to deserving students as well in the very near future.”
At the event, Nexgen’s Marketing Manager, Karen Novelo noted that both the scholarship and the bags are just some of the many examples of the company’s commitment to its social responsibility. “Each year, we think of ways to best contribute to national development by providing what we can to ensure that children get the best chance to excel”, Novelo added.
ACP Gillett thanked Nexgen for the donations and signaled that this continued partnership with Nexgen is one way we can create positive change. “When police build strong, positive bonds with children early on, we plant the seeds of trust, respect, and hope. The stronger these roots, the less need there is for enforcement tomorrow. Early engagement isn’t just smart policing—it’s an investment in a safer, brighter future for all”, ACP Gillett explained.
Nexgen will be working with other organizations to distribute bags to students across the country in the coming weeks and in time for the start of the new school year.
